There are times when you may need to edit the registry and change certain values or keys. That's because most Windows applications don't completely remove all their keys and values from the registry the moment they are uninstalled. Having more and more such keys can make the system run slower and unstable. Besides that, some advanced users may want to tweak certain applications by changing their registry keys. The Windows operating system features a registry editor that, unfortunately, is not so good and doesn't have too many features.

A program which allows efficiently editing the registry is Registry Workshop. This is a simple Windows application which features many more options and functions than regedit, the Windows default registry editor. After installing the program and running it, the user will notice a simple interface which resembles the one of regedit, but seems far more complex.

A feature that the Windows registry editor hasn't got is the possibility to connect to the registry of any computer connected to a network. This can save time, as the user doesn't need to edit the registry of every computer physically. Another thing which will be very useful is the possibility to display search results for more than one search, thus working with multiple keys at the same time will be a breeze.

In case the user wants to reuse and have faster access to certain keys, he can add them to a bookmark list, which is similar to the one provided by most web browsers. What's more, any two registry keys can be compared, for viewing the differences between them. This keys can be either in the same registry or in a local and a remote one.

One can create a snapshot of the registry at any moment and then compare it with an older one. This is useful when installing applications, for seeing exactly what keys are added or modified during the program's installation process.

Pros

It allows editing the registry in the fastest way possible, by keeping a history of all searched keys. Besides that, it allows connecting to any remote registry. Furthermore, one can create a complete registry snapshot and compare it with an older one, for spotting all the differences between them.

Cons

The program requires some knowledge about editing the registry in order to be fully used. Registry Workshop allows you to edit the Windows registry in the easiest and fastest way possible.
